Gen V's showrunner, Michele Fazekas, reveals the biggest twist in the show's second season was right in front of our faces all along. The twist? It was all about the identity of Cipher and the burned-up man in his house. Spoiler alert for Gen V season 2, episode 7! Fazekas explains that the show's creators laid out subtle hints throughout the season, like the mysterious character of Doug, who just so happens to be none other than Thomas Godolkin, the founder of Godolkin University and the creator of the Odessa project. But here's the mind-bending part: Godolkin didn't die in the fire as we initially thought. He survived, and his newfound powers allowed him to find a host body, taking control of Doug's body and becoming Cipher. The burned-up body, which belonged to Thomas Godolkin, was restored by Marie using her healing powers, all to stop what she thought was Cipher. But, as it turns out, Cipher was just a body Godolkin had taken control of. Fazekas admits that the showrunners were worried the audience might figure this out early on, but the twist was designed to be subtle and not immediately obvious.
